Tengri

The Company

The House of Tengri is a London-based design house, building a new global community to bring sustainable fibres to the forefront of the textile industry and redefine the norm in luxury.

Tengri Noble Yarns and fabrics are created from ancient natural fibres, sustainably sourced via a 100% transparent supply chain from remote parts of the world. These natural fibres are selected for their superior natural qualities, including warmth, luxurious hand-feel and hypoallergenic nature.

Tengri’s regenerative approach helps to preserve remote landscapes, protect wildlife, and support indigenous communities threatened by rapid industrialisation and land degradation.

R&D Focus

Through the BFTT creative R&D project, Tengri explored and codified existing UK heritage manufacturing techniques and new technologies that could be applicable to the creation of nonwovens from yarn production bio-waste. The project supported in-depth research, development, testing and production with UK-based industry partners.

Alice Timmis

R&D Project Lead

UAL

A highly skilled weaver, Alice’s career spans textile design, manufacture, R&D and consultancy working with yarn, trend, fashion and interior industries and education. Since completing her masters at the Royal College of Art (RCA), Alice has founded an award-winning textile practise collaborating with international clients and European mills. Her passion for craft inspires her to develop commercial woven and non-woven fabrics through a process of handiwork that doesn’t get lost in the stages of industrial manufacture. Extensive experience working with the textile supply chain has led Alice onto sustainable research projects, eliminating pre-consumer textile waste and developing it into fabrics suitable for market.
