BFTT-funded interdisciplinary research paper published in MDPI Sustainability

A paper on ‘Referencing Historical Practices and Emergent Technologies in the Future Development of Sustainable Textiles: A Case Study Exploring “Ardil”, a UK-Based Regenerated Protein Fibre’ was published by the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI).

The research paper was produced by the BFTT researchers Hannah Auerbach George, Dr Joseph Houghton (both Postdoctoral Research Fellows) and Marie Stenton (PhD Student), including Prof Richard Blackburn and Prof Veronika Kapsali (both Co-Investigators) in the BFTT Rethinking Material Resources.

They used Ardil, a UK-based Regenerated Protein Fibre derived from peanuts as a case study, its historical production, processing and application in the fashion and textiles sector.

This research highlights the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration between sectors, specifically focusing on the wealth of valuable information available within historical archives for application in modern sustainability goals.
