Dr Kate Goldsworthy in United Nation’s High Political Forum

Our Deputy Director, Dr Kate Goldsworthy took part in the UN High Political Forum Side Event “Building Resilient Circular Supply Chains by Empowering Grassroots Action: Collaboration as a tool for achieving SDGs in Fashion“.

Kate led a discussion with Tricia Langman and Sarah Angold of Hecho x Nosotros, on the future of the changing fashion landscape, debating the ways in which sustainability, transparency and circularity can become truly mainstream.

She asked the question, “Can something be truly beautiful or luxurious if the story behind it isn’t also beautiful?” and the panel suggested possible solutions:

  • First, with education to create new narratives, replacing our addiction to newness with recognition of long-lasting value.
  • Then, embracing collaboration and co-creation between all stakeholders in order to drive a sustainable transition in the fashion industry and beyond.

You can read the report here, while a recording of the event will be made available soon.
